Anthurium 'Big Bill'

Anthurium 'Big Bill' is a large-growing cultivated Anthurium with long, pendant leaves and a strong self-heading crown. Mature plants send out elongated blades that hang down from the centre, giving the plant a broad, cascading outline as it gains size.

Young plants may start compact, then produce longer pendant leaves as the root system fills the container. A stable pot, warm roots and an open Anthurium mix help the crown hold large leaves without staying too wet around the base.

Anthurium 'Big Bill' key traits

  • Growth habit: Self-heading Anthurium with a strong central crown.
  • Leaf form: Long, leathery blades that become more pendant as the plant matures.
  • Container behaviour: Needs enough vertical clearance for mature leaves.
  • Mature shape: Older plants can form a wide, hanging leaf outline above the pot.

Anthurium 'Big Bill' indoor care

  • Light: Provide bright filtered light and protect soft or pale foliage from harsh midday sun.
  • Watering: Water when the upper part of the substrate has started to dry, then drain thoroughly.
  • Substrate: Use a loose Anthurium mix with bark, coco chips, pumice or perlite so roots receive moisture and oxygen.
  • Temperature: Keep warm, ideally around 18–28 °C, and protect from cold wet substrate.
  • Humidity: Moderate to high humidity helps new leaves expand cleanly; pair humidity with gentle airflow.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly during active growth with a diluted complete fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot or the mix begins to collapse.
  • Pot choice: Use a stable pot or raised container so mature leaves can hang freely.

Anthurium 'Big Bill' issues to check

  • Yellowing lower leaves: Check for compacted substrate, cool roots or a pot staying wet for too long.
  • Brown edges: Review humidity, watering gaps and fertiliser strength.
  • Distorted new growth: Inspect young leaves for thrips or mites and stabilise humidity.
  • Soft stems or crown: Check root health and improve drainage immediately.
  • Torn leaves: Long pendant blades mark easily when crowded.

Anthurium 'Big Bill' handling and safety

Anthurium 'Big Bill' should be kept away from pets and children that may chew plant material. Like other Anthuriums, it contains calcium oxalate crystals that can irritate the mouth, throat, skin and eyes.

Anthurium 'Big Bill' name background

Anthurium belongs to the family Araceae. The genus name comes from Greek anthos, meaning flower, and oura, meaning tail, referring to the spadix.

Not for tough chewers
Color: Blue
Cute toy, good concept but definitely not for super chewer. Got it at such a price that I let him destroy it because he was having so much fun. You only have one birthday a year after all.

fun toy
Color: Orange
Very cute toy .My dog loves it. He is hard on toys and loves playing pully. So far it is holding up really well. It is a good size for medium to large dogs. I think if you have a small breed it may be to large. The color is a vivid orange and white. I really think your dog will love it.
